St. Charles, IL - The Sierra Club and the League of Conservation Voters (LCV) Action Fund today announced their joint endorsement of Lauren Underwood for Illinois’ 14th Congressional District.

"We are pleased to announce today that the Sierra Club officially endorses Lauren Underwood," said Linda Cole, Sierra Club Valley of the Fox Group Political Chair. "Given the current administration’s continued threats to our clean air and water and public lands, it is more important than ever to elect environmental champions like Lauren. Current incumbent Randy Hultgren has taken vote after vote with President Trump and against environmental protections. We are eager to work hard to elect a representative who will stand on the side of science and reason, and that champion is Lauren Underwood."

“Lauren Underwood has dedicated her career to the health and wellbeing of the communities that are most exposed to the disastrous impacts of climate change,” said LCV Action Fund Senior Vice President of Government Affairs Tiernan Sittenfeld. “Her experience in public health and commitment to environmental justice will serve her well in Congress as she works to protect our air and water and fights for climate action and a clean energy future. We are excited to endorse her campaign.”

“We are grateful for this endorsement from the Sierra Club and LCV Action Fund. The Sierra Club and LCV continue to be on the front lines of fighting to protect our nation's natural resources, air, and waterways. In Congress, I will join them in the fight for a clean and healthy environment," said Lauren Underwood.

Lauren Underwood was born and raised in Naperville, Illinois. She graduated from the University of Michigan and Johns Hopkins University. A registered nurse, she was appointed by President Obama to serve as a Senior Advisor at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS). She helped communities across the country prevent, prepare for, and respond to disasters, bioterror threats and public health emergencies, and helped implement the Affordable Care Act. More recently, she worked with a Medicaid plan in Chicago and as an instructor for nurse practitioners through Georgetown University’s online master’s program.

Along with the endorsement, the Sierra Club will lend its volunteer strength to Lauren Underwood 's campaign.  "We pledge to do all we can to help ensure Lauren is elected," said Linda Cole. "Scores of Sierra Club volunteers will contact voters on her behalf and we will speak to the public as often as possible about her exemplary environmental promise. We look forward to a victory for Lauren on election night and to her fighting for the environment as a U.S. Representative in IL-14th Congressional District."
