Senator Kirsten Gillibrand's Off the Sidelines PAC stands with Lauren Underwood

Naperville, IL - Democrat, registered nurse, and first-time Congressional candidate Lauren Underwood of Illinois’s 14th District announced today that she has been endorsed by New York Senator Kirsten Gillibrand’s Off the Sidelines political action committee.

“I am proud to be running for Congress and I am thrilled to have the support of Senator Gillibrand,” says Underwood. “Off the Sidelines is dedicated to supporting women as they step forward into public life, whether fighting for changes in our local communities or running for office.”

“As a registered nurse, Lauren Underwood has provided needed health services to individual patients, disaster torn communities, and the American people,” said Senator Gillibrand. “We need more women like Lauren in Congress to champion the issues that matter most to working women and their families. Off the Sidelines is proud to endorse her campaign for Congress.”

Women are severely underrepresented in elected office. In Washington, women make up only 19 percent of the U.S. House of Representatives and 21 percent of the U.S. Senate.

Senator Gillibrand believes that if more women are elected to office and have a seat at the decision-making table, the outcomes will be better. Senator Gillibrand is committed to increasing the number of women who choose to “get off the sidelines” by providing critical early funding support and encouragement. In the nearly 5 years since Off the Sidelines launched, nearly $5 million has been directly raised for women candidates to ensure they have the resources needed to win.
